The Plaza de la Vigía is a popular and well-known space located in the Historic Center of the City of Matanzas, and owes its name to the fact that there existed for more than 100 years a fort that protected the city from attacks by corsairs and pirates This construction was demolished in the second half of the 19th century.

It is the permanent headquarters of the International Ballet, Guitar and Contemporary Music Festivals.
And the fire station was inaugurated on February 2, 1873, inspired by neoclassical architecture, one of the most attractive buildings of its type in Cuba. The property is considered an exponent of military architecture. The building currently occupied by the Firefighters Command in the province of Matanzas is the only one of its kind in the country that shows the pages of history and at the same time houses the daily exercise of saving lives.
